Remember the recent news about Guardians of the Galaxy, like the three promo stills and word that the first full trailer would drop during Jimmy Kimmel Live tonight? Well, Marvel, in all their infinite wisdom, decided to whet the appetites of Guardians and Marvel fans alike when they released a fifteen-second teaser online this morning.
Right off the bat, I’m getting the same vibe as I did from the early footage that leaked out of Marvel’s Hall H presentation at SDCC last summer – thanks in part to the take on Blue Swede’s “Hooked on a Feeling”, the quick cuts, and the shots that call back to said footage. It’s balls-to-the-wall from the moment Korath (Djimon Hounsou) asks Quill/Star Lord (Chris Pratt) “Who are you?” to the title card. There are glimpses of Guardians members Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Groot (Vin Diesel), and Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper), as well as space pirate Nebula (Karen Gillan), a prison fight and escape, and some sweet spaceship shots – namely the Milano, Quill’s ship that was recently spotted in Lego form at the New York Toy Fair. The production value looks spot-on (but you can’t just judge from fifteen seconds of footage), and it goes without saying that there is certainly more to be seen, but for that, the world will have to wait until the trailer drops during Jimmy Kimmel Live tonight.
Guardians of the Galaxy, which opens on August 1, follows the ragtag adventuring troop of misfits as they try to stay one step ahead of Ronan The Accuser (Lee Pace) and save the galaxy. It also stars Benicio Del Toro, Glenn Close, John C. Reilly, and Peter Serafinowicz, among others.
