Vancouver’s Lakefield are gearing up for the release of their new EP Swan Songs. It’s a special release for the band, and an appropriately title one, as it’s their literal swan song. It’s their final release as a band, and they wanted to go out in the best way possible. As they describe it:
“Swan Songs” is the result of a blood promise between the five of us, to deliver one final wholehearted performance amidst our death throes. We consider it our most vital work; a perfect portrait of our band at its very end.”
One listen to the EP’s opening waltz-like track “Good Guy” will make you sad to learn that the band will be no more after this. From the widescreen guitar that opens the track, to Kate Rossiter’s wholesome vocals, there’s just something organic and pure about Lakefield’s sound. Fans of Rilo Kiley may find a warm familiarity in Lakefield’s lovely indie-rock crescendo.
