According to Variety, Marvel has booked Michael Douglas for Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man. Douglas will play Hank Pym, the scientist who created the technology that Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) uses to become Ant-Man. This comes the night after Douglas took home a Golden Globe for his performance in Behind The Candelabra.
Fans of the comic have been wondering how exactly Wright would utilize the Ant-Man universe in his adaptation, as the comics portrayed both Pym and Lang as Ant-Man at some point. Now we finally get our answer.
Here’s the official statement from Marvel Studios President, Kevin Feige:
With Hank Pym’s rich history in the Marvel Universe, we knew we needed an actor capable of bringing the weight and stature to the role that the character deserves. We felt incredibly relieved when Michael Douglas agreed to step into the part with the charm and fortitude he brings to every character he inhabits, and couldn’t be more excited to see what he will do to bring Hank Pym to life.”
Things just got even more interesting for Ant-Man. I doubt many people would have originally guessed that Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas would be attached to this project. If there’s anyone we can trust to handle a project the right way, it’s Edgar Wright.
Ant-Man, from director Edgar Wright and his writing partner Joe Cornish, hits theaters on July 31, 2015.
