Rumors were flying months ago that Paul Rudd was a heavy favorite to play Ant-Man in Marvel’s upcoming Ant-Man film to be directed by Edgar Wright. Apparently, there were some truths to the rumors as now it’s been heavily reported confirmed that Rudd is apparently in heavy talks to take is a lock for the role. All that is needed is that final confirmation announcing it.
Yesterday, The Wrap reported that Rudd landed the lead role in Ant-Man and was involved in negotiations to play Hank Pym/Ant-Man (and they have since updated the story with the confirmation – as have numerous other film blogs; however, it isn’t clear which Ant-Man Rudd will be portraying). Joseph Gordon-Levitt was also touted to possibly take the role, but since he’s producing the film adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s graphic novel series The Sandman, it has left the role open for Rudd.
At first glance, Rudd may seem like an odd choice to take the role, but I think it’s a clever piece of casting that will fit Rudd quite nicely. I think Rudd will have a much better handle on it than people will be expecting, but we shall have to wait and see.
Wright co-wrote the script along with Joe Cornish, and the film will be released on July 31, 2015 as part of Marvel’s Phase Three.
