Sandler and Barrymore in Blended

In the past, a Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore team up gave us pretty good results. Both The Wedding Singer and 50 First Dates become smash hits, and were very enjoyable. While Barrymore hasn’t been acting as much, Sandler has been turning in garbage as of late, sleepwalking through his career in favor of a paycheck.

The duo reunite in the upcoming comedy Blended. Unfortunately it looks like Sandler’s influence has ruined any slight hope I had at this reunion being anything decent.

Single parents Lauren (Drew Barrymore) and Jim (Adam Sandler) go on date, and its a disaster. But by some minor miracle they both end up going to the same family vacation with their kids to Africa. Then they’re forced to spend time together, which is likely to cause them to eventually fall for each other and…yada yada yada. You know whats coming.

Frank Coraci who directed some of Sandler’s better, earlier, efforts such as The Wedding Singer, The Waterboy, and Click is at the helm. But he also handled films such as Around The World In 80 Days, Zookeeper, and Here Comes The Boom. From the looks of it, Blended is leaning towards grouping in the latter group.

The trailer is just what you expect: lazy humor, a lazily put together plot, just a by the numbers effort. It looks like an all around mess. I see Terry Crewes and Joel McHale are cast in this, which is shame. They both deserve so much better.

Blended comes out on May 23.
