Atlanta garage rockers Black Lips will release their new album Underneath The Rainbow on March 18. It’s the band’s seventh album, and it was produced this year both in Nashville with the Black Keys’ Patrick Carney and in New York with Tommy Brenneck.
Talking to Rolling Stone, bassist Jared Swilley described the album as “roots music”, saying “our main influences are pretty traditional.” Rolling Stone also found out that a track called “Boys In The Wood” is an ode to Lynyrd Skynyrd, and about the band members growing up in Atlanta and “doing bathtub drugs and drinking bathtub gin.” Some songs were written and recorded in one day, and a song called “Smiling” is about a time Swilley went to jail for a bit last year.
Sounds to me like Underneath The Rainbow will be quite an album. I heard a few songs from it last month when they played MHOW, and the songs sounded pretty good. Find the 12-song tracklist posted below.
