Last night I got word that it was rumored that Outkast were going to reunite and play at Coachella. This stopped me dead in my tracks, as an Outkast reunion has become something that I never thought would happen.
But the rumor spread, and I held off until we got a little more confirmation, and now that confirmation has arrived. According to Revolt TV (Via COS) “the reunion is currently set to exist solely in the live setting, with no new album plans in sight, for now.”
The band are planning a headlining spot on Coachella, and will likely grace many other big stages as well. This has been confirmed by Outkast’s longtime collaborator Sleepy Brown.
Believe it or not it’s been almost seven years since Outkast’s Big Boi and André 3000 worked together on a song. It’s been even longer since they played a show. So this is epic news.
I’ve actually seen the duo before, many, many, years, ago. I was maybe 10 years old, and won tickets on some z100 contest for their Jingle Ball concert (haha). I remember hearing Outkast playing “Miss Jackson” and “The Whole World” and the rest of their mega hits at the time, but only wish I was old enough to have been more appreciative of what I got to see. Hopefully they’ll keep playing long enough during this reunion for me to get to see them again.
