There’s a lot of film and entertainment news in the world and only so much time in the day to cover everything, so every weekend, we’ll be picking a number of noteworthy news items from the week and covering them in this feature, entitled “What’d You Miss?”. These items run the gamut from casting news to production updates, rumors, and even a few trailers, so read on for some things you might have missed this week on the web!

It’s All About The People

Lake Bell, the writer-director-leading actress of In A World (who we interviewed a few months back), talked with The Atlantic about breaking into writing, feminism in the movie industry, and advice she’d give to her younger self.

Christoph Waltz, Tarantino’s latest muse, is apparently set to star in Horrible Bosses 2 as one of the horrible bosses, along with Chris Pine. The core cast of Bateman, Sudekis, and Day are set to return, and the film is set for a Thanksgiving 2014 release. Why Thanksgiving instead of a summer release? Beats me. (via Slashfilm)

USA Today comes bearing news that Tom Hardy will be playing Elton John in an Elton John-produced biopic. I can’t quite picture Hardy as Reginald Dwight/Elton John, but considering some of Hardy’s transformations (Bronson, Bane), it could work.

For those actually concerned with news about the 50 Shades of Grey adaptation, Luke Grimes (True Blood) has been cast as Christian’s adopted brother, and Jamie Dornan (Once Upon A Time, The Fallhas replaced Charlie Hunnam (Pacific RimSons of Anarchy) as Christian Grey. (via Screenrant)

For fans of modern British fantasy lit, there’s more casting news for BBC and BBC America’s seven-part miniseries adaptation of Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell. Eddie Marsan (Sherlock Holmes: A Game of ShadowsThe World’s End) will be playing Mr. Norrell. (via Vulture)

And on more of a somber note, Marcia Wallace (The Bob Newhart Show, Ms. Krabappel on The Simpsons) passed away at the age of 70 (just shy of 71) from breast cancer complications. (via Deadline)

Sci-Fi ‘Verses

Delving into sci-fi/pop culture geekery news, there’s finally word via Slashfilm about the long-awaited Star Wars: Episode VII … which is that Michael Arndt is out and JJ Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan are in – for writing the screenplay, that is. Slashfilm also has a comprehensive list of who from the Lucasfilms/Bad Robot-verse are joining Episode VII as part of the crew.

The promo flyer announcing US theater screenings for “The Day of the Doctor”.

The 50th anniversary special of Doctor Who, titled “The Day of the Doctor”, was originally set to air as part of a global simulcast on November 23rd with special 3D showings in UK theaters. That has now been expanded to eleven US movie theaters with an additional 300 theaters showing the special the following Monday night (November 25th). (via Anglophenia)

Speaking of ‘Verses, over on io9, Joss-verse costume designer Shawna Trpcic took part in a comment Q&A yielding some interesting facts about Jayne’s hat, among others.

Marvel-ous

Remember the Captain America: The Winter Soldier trailer that launched on Thursday? There are mash-ups already, starting with the above video.

As for the next part of Marvel’s Phase 2, reviews for Thor: The Dark World are starting to make their way out into the world, along with a few clips here and there that showcase the humor and returning cast members. And the reviews seem positive for the most part, but I’m withholding my judgement until I see the film.

In another part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there are rumors that Paul Rudd and Joseph Gordon-Levitt are on the shortlist to play Ant-Man. However, according to JGL, they’re just rumors. Which Ant-Man the film will focus on (Hank Pym or Scott Lang) is still the question. (via Screenrant)

In other Marvel superhero news, a trailer for the franchise-combining X-Men: Days of Future Past is set to drop on Tuesday. In the meantime, there’s a Vine/Instagram-length quick-cut micro-teaser.

Trailer Trash

On the heels of a full-length trailer (below) for The Monuments Men, word has come down the line that the film is being pushed back from December to February 7, 2014 because of visual effects. (via Deadline)

And if you’re in an animated mood, there’s finally a trailer (below) for Mr. Peabody and Sherman, the CG-animated reboot/reimagining of the recurring segment from The Rocky & Bullwinkle Show. The film sets up both eponymous characters (voiced respectively by Ty Burrell (Modern Family) and Max Chase (The Amazing Spider-Man), as well as the main conflict: Messing with time travel leads to the potential end of the world. But it’s a kids film (with historical jokes and settings for adults), so everything’s going to be okay … I think. And it look somewhat promising, judging based on what io9 has seen.

Just For Funsies

I’m not a regular viewer of SNL (well, it might depend on the host or recent episodes), but I was rather pleased by this trailer parody from last night’s Edward Norton-hosted episode.
