The Muggies is the project of Josh Paladini. He is The Muggies, as he is a one man band who released his debut album, simply titled 1st Album.

When crafting music Josh places high importance on lyrics, musicianship and melody. Every song that you hear on the album tackles a different area or element of rock and roll, with Josh’s own stamp on it. Take opening track “Kiss Me Jane” which has a loose early guitar rock feel to it that

You will notice a similar vocal draw for Josh throughout the album which goes along with all the different genres that he incorporates onto 1st Album. There are elements of rock n’ roll, funk, punk, hip-hop, and pop with inlfluences stretching from The Cars, The Minutemen, The Monkees, King Crimson, The Kinks and Blur. There’s a 70’s influence on “Julie in a Bottle” and a 90s rap-rop influence on the rowdy “Right The Angle.”

With every track you make no mistake that it’s Josh, as it has his stamp written all over it. It’s hard to imagine that this is one guy doing on the work, with the layered vocal work on “Groundipals”, it really sounds like Josh has a full band by his side. Take the interplay of the keys and guitars on “You Built Castles”, something that when Josh gets right, may be the highlight of the album.

This is Josh’s first album, and it’s impressive that he does all of this on his own. His vocals work well in the concept of his song, but I think he can use a little work diversifying them and making them even stronger. He’s still young, and is quite accomplished and on his way. With more time, I can see Josh becoming an even more polished musician, which could be quite a force.

You can listen to the album over at his bandcamp page and purchase it from iTunes. You can also find him on facebook and twitter.’
