Great news for Harry Potter fans: A spin-off film series is being made for release in the near future. The new films will be inspired by fictional Hogwarts textbook Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them, which was later written & published in the real world in 2001, and feature the fictional author Newt Scamander. The first film will carry the title of the textbook as well.
Even though the films will feature the same wizarding universe as the Harry Potter series, the events of the new films will take place approximately 70 years before the events of the Harry Potter films. It will feature magical characters and creatures; some which will be familiar to fans of the original series.
In addition to serving as expansion of the magical universe from the Harry Potter series, Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them will serve as Rowling’s first attempt at screenwriting. Although initially hesitant at transforming the book into a film series, Rowling says she came up with an unshakeable idea for a film series and decided to put it into motion. The fact that she’s having so much creative control and influence in the project should bode well for any Harry Potter fan.
There will be more info on the film series as time passes but for now just relish in the fact that more Harry Potter-related films are on the way!
