Dev Heynes has been a popular guy as of late. He produced Solange Knowles recent EP, and has been working with Britney Spears on producer her new album. He also made original music for the score of the James Franco featured film, Palo Alto.
In between all this, Hynes still found time to record music for his own solo project, Blood Orange. Late last night he released a new song called “Chamakay” that features vocals from Caroline Polachek of Chairlift. It’s off his new album Cupid Deluxe. It’s a lovely r&b gem that is a straight stunner.
Hynes always had potential, whether it was with the feisty dance-punkers Test Icicles, or with his prior solo project Lightspeed Champion. But I think with “Chamakay,” he has finally reached his true potential.
It hits that sweet spot quite well, sounding damn good, while also moving me. It’s got an equally great video, featured footage from a recent trip to Guyana that Hynes took, connecting with estranged relatives. It was directed by Adam Bainbridge, and can be watched below.
