Benh Zeitlin

Last year’s Beast Of The Southern Wild ended up being one of my favorite films of the year. It really was different from the rest of the films that Hollywood brought to us in 2012, and it retains that magical feeling every time I pop my blu-ray in for a watch. The young director behind it, Benh Zeitlin, clearly has a bright future ahead of him, as Beasts was amazingly his debut feature film.

Zeitlin spoke to The New York Times for their excellent piece on “20 Directors To Watch.” In it, Zeitlin detailed a bit on the new film he’s working on. Find his exact quote, below:

The new film is about a young girl who gets kidnapped onto a hidden ecosystem where a tribal war is raging over a form of pollen that breaks the relationship between aging and time. It follows a friendship-love story-adventure of her and a joyous, reckless, pleasure-mongering young boy as they swirl in and out of youth and as the ecosystem around them spirals toward destruction. We’re working on it all day every day, but as all psychotic adventures go, you know where your destination is but not how long it’s going to take to get there.

I already have tremendous amounts of trust in Zeitlin, as he already proved to me that he knows how to work with a budget, and put storytelling and creativity first and foremost. Consider me sold. I really can’t wait to see what Zeitlin has in store for us with this film.
