Ryan Gosling has recently said that he will be taking a short break from acting in movies, in order to focus on his directorial debut, How To Catch A Monster. The film, which Gosling also wrote, takes a look at Billy, a single mother of two, who is swept into a macabre and dark fantasy underworld while her teenage son discovers a secret road leading to an underwater town. He describes it as a film with elements of fantasy noir, and suspense into a modern day fairytale.

Johnny Jewel, of the band’s Chromatics and Glass Candy, is helping with the music for the film. In an interview with Noisey, Jewel revealed a little bit about the soundtrack. He said it’s “more doo-woop, disintegrated rockabilly mixed in with industrial sounds.” Alan Vega and the Shangri-La’s were influences. He got acquainted with Gosling who has been going to Chromatics/Glass Candy shows over the last few years in LA.

Mad Men’s Christina Hendricks will star as Billy. The film will also feature Saoirse Ronan, Evan Mendes, Ben Mendelsohn, Matt Smith, Rob Zabrecky, and Iain De Caestecker, and is slater for a 2014 release via Warner Bros.
