If you’re a big fan of Edgar Wright (Shaun Of The Dead, Hot Fuzz, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World) as I am, you best start getting pumped for his next film, The World’s End. It’s the 3rd Simon Pegg and Nick Frost starring film directed by Wright, completing Wright’s Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy.
The World’s End takes place 20 years after 5 childhood friends attempted an epic pub crawl. They reunite after one of them is determined to give the drinking marathon another go. Gary King (Simon Pegg) drags them back to their hometown and attempts to complete their journey and reach the fabled final pub destination: The World’s End. While reconciling their past and present, they struggle to fight for both their future and the rest of mankind’s.
The film has been left vaguely mysterious aside from that plot synopsis, but the newly revealed poster gives us something visual to hold us over for a while. The film also stars Martin Freeman, Paddy Considine, Rosamund Pike, and David Bradley.
By now, we just learn to trust Edgar Wright. Anything that he touches – especially with Pegg/Frost – ends up being a classic. We can only venture some guesses as to where the film will go, but I trust that it will be a wild ride that will end up being one of the best movies of 2013. I would be disappointed if it ended up being anything less.
The World’s End comes out in the U.S. on August 23rd. Of course, the U.K. gets it July 19.
