Kaiser Chiefs have revealed that there isn’t one true form of their new album The Future Is Medieval. It’s up to their fans to decide what songs make up the album. Confused? Here, I’ll explain:
Head to Kaiser Chiefs website. There are 20 songs to choose from, and you get to listen to one minute clips of each. You will then pick ten and put them together to form an album. You pay £7.50 and get to download your version of the album. It gets even more interesting. You then can post the album you created for sale and you get £1 for each sale you make.
I myself am a big fan of the album and don’t like how there is no “definite” version of the album. I don’t know how I feel about having hundreds of personal versions of an album out there. A carefully selected tracklisting makes all of the difference. I’m sure many people really like this idea and I can see way. I applaud the creativity of Kaiser Chiefs. I just worry that The Future Is Medieval will be known as the first create your own album, rather than a definite collection of songs. But hey, that’s just me.
It’s an interesting experiment, and it will be even more interesting to see what comes out of all this. So check out the whole process and see what you make out of it. Literally.
