Tennis is Patrick Riley and Alaina Moore, a husband/wife duo from Denver, Colorado. They took a eight month trip together sailing the Northeast coast and were inspired to document the feelings the trip gave the couple.
Tennis is a band that has been getting a lot of hype these past few weeks. I have put off listening to them for some reason, but I finally got a chance to scoop up some of their music and am thoroughly impressed with the sounds of Tennis.
They released a 7″ with “South Carolina” on Woodsman’s label, Firetalk which sold out all 300 copies. Their latest 7″ is available to purchase right now on Underwater Peoples and features three pretty stunning songs: “Marathon”, “Baltimore” & “Cape Dory”.
Everyone from GorillavsBear to Chocolate Bobka has been singing the praise of Tennis, and after playing their singles pretty much nonstop all afternoon, I gotta agree with it. These guys have got the goods. They dazzle with sunny melodies and gorgous pop harmonies from Alaina’s lovely, lovely, voice. These guys aren’t the lo-fi in the Best Coast sense. They have that vintage girlgroup sound that sounds just as sweet as it would 50 years ago.
I’m sold on Tennis, and I am really excited to see what other tight jams they are going to churn out this year.
