Brazilian singer-songwriter Rodrigo Amarante formerly of Los Hermanos and Little Joy (with Fabrizio Moretti (of The Strokes) and Binki Shapiro) released his debut solo offering Cavalo in 2013 and has enjoyed some success with his song “Tuyo” as the theme song of the hit Netflix show Narcos. On August 10 he played two sold out shows back to back at National Sawdust as a part of Brasil Summerfest along with opener Ava Rocha.
I caught the late show of the performance, which saw Amarante in great spirits the minute he took the stage. He ran through many of his solo offerings as well as “Tuyo,” even giving a shotout to Moretti who was in the audience, along with Lee Ranaldo of Sonic Youth. The was a delicacy and sincire warmth to Amarante’s demenar on stage which resulted in some great singalongs and adoration from the packed crowd.
I hope we don’t have to wait too much longer from a new solo album from Amarante, if it means we get to see him play live once again very soon.
