Last fall when I caught The Horrors performance at Rough Trade NYC, I was intrigued by the opening set from new Brooklyn band Russian Baths. Their dark punk rock held my attention, leaving me excited to find out more about the moody rockers.
Russian Baths are starting the new year strong, releasing their debut EP Penance on February 23 via Good Eye Records. The first single shared from the EP is “Slenderman,” a song that teases an aggressive moody post-punk sound, while also finding the beauty of all the spaces in-between. All while showcasing some air-tight percussion and blissfully shoegazey guitar work. All of this is tied together in winning fashion by the floating vocals of Jess Rees.
It’s a good first taste for this band who are most certainly ones to keep an eye on.
Take a listen to “Slenderman” below and you can preorder the entire EP over on iTunes.
