With No Shape, Perfume Genius has released not only one of the best albums of the year, but possibly the strongest album from Mike Hadreas already-great discography.
We caught his performance at Brooklyn Steel back in May and this December he returned back to New York for a series of intimate performances at both Bowery Ballroom and Music Hall of Williamsburg. We caught night two of his run at Bowery Ballroom on December 11, featuring a lovely opening set from DM Stith.
While his performance at Brooklyn Steel was great in its own right, there was no comparison to the intimate up close and personal nature of seeing him at Bowery Ballroom. The performance came with additional help from a string quartet who helped out on many of the songs off of the new album, as well as Put Your Back N 2 It track “Normal Song.” They added an additional sense of warmth and power to the already moving nature of Hadreas impressive vocal range and incredible body movements.
He delivers a touching performance like quite no one else and finds countless ways to move an audience. His songs and performances are only getting bigger and better, making it clear that even greater things await him in the future.
