This year indie rock legends Luna returned with A Sentimental Education, a new album full of covers of bands they’ve shared the stage with or worked with in some way, as well as covers of songs they’ve long integrated into their live sets, such as The Cure’s “Fire In Cairo.” On top of that, they released a brand new 6-song EP full of new instrumentals, entitled A Place Of Greater Safety. Both the cover album and EP were released this year via Double Feature Records.
On November 18 the group played to a large crowd at Brooklyn Steel, a much larger venue than the last time I saw them: an intimate showing last year at The Bell House. The band delivered a fair share of Luna classics, new offerings and of course, covers. The band sounded as sharp as ever and delighted the packed venue from start to finish, with a total of 17 songs played throughout their regular set, plus two encores.
