On June 9, I kicked off my Friday night of Northside Festival with a performance from Girlpool, the folk rock duo of Cleo Tucker and Harmony Tividad. They’re on tour in support of their new album Powerplant which was released on May 12 via Anti-. The show was put on by Ad Hoc as a part of Northside and was even live streamed by Pitchfork (watch the replay here).
The last time I saw Girlpool (at MHOW) it was just the duo of Tucker and Tividad, but just like on the new album, their new-look lineup features a drummer and an additional guitarist that helped give them a much fuller sound for the new songs. They played a mix of material from the new album as well as their debut Before the World Was Big – where on select tracks, just the duo would perform.
The packed room of Warsaw was filled with dedicated fans who passionately sang back every word that the duo sang, a quick reminder of how much this bands music means to so many.
