On April 27, English electronic duo Goldfrapp played the second of a two-night run at Brooklyn Steel. The shows came in support of their latest album Silver Eye, which was released on March 31 via Mute Records.
For nearly two decades, the duo of Alison Goldfrapp and Will Gregory have been making electronic dance jams together, releasing seven albums along the way. They brought the songs to life in a big way at Brooklyn Steel, a perfect setting for Goldfrapp’s big anthems to take flight. It was my first time catching the group live and they delivered on just about every level I could expect.
The crowd was a bit tame during the early moments of their setlist, with Alison noticing, and asking the crowd to move a bit more. It took them a few more songs, but as the material started getting a little more dance-friendly, the crowd seemed to respond with ease. The band played a favorable amount of the new record, while also surrounding the new material with old favorites, included an epic 4-song encore that included “Black Cherry,” “Strict Machine” and “Ooh La La.” The group absolutely shine in the live environment, and should be seen live by all fans, at least once.
