Last year saw long-standing indie rockers Miracle Legion reunite for some of their first shows in twenty years. They continued on this year for another tour, which is looking like the final run for now.
They brought the tour to New York for a performance at Bowery Ballroom on Friday, April 21st. I was only seven the last time they properly toured, and had unfortunately missed their stops last year, so I made sure I found my way to this year’s stop at Bowery, as chances are it would be my first and last Miracle Legion show.
The group, led by Mark Mulcahy and Mr. Ray Neal, and rounded out by Dave McCaffrey and Scott Boutier, released a new live album entitled Annulment earlier this year via Mezzotint. Their 20-song set featured favorites from all over their discography, giving the strong and passionate crowd at Bowery plenty to cheer for. A few drunker audience members got a bit too loud and disruptive during the performance, causing Mulcahy to politely ask them to stop, as well as reminded fans that the setlist is there for a reason.
I’m glad that I finally got to see Miracle Legion perform, and if it really is goodbye, at least I have this show to look back on.
