The Drums are finally back. It’s been three year since their last album 2014’s Encyclopedia. Their new album is titled “Abysmal Thoughts” and will be released on June 16 via their new label ANTI-. You can preorder it now, right here.
Today, along with the album announcement, The Drums have released the album’s first single, “Blood Under My Belt.” If you’re a fan of The Drums, it won’t take much to win you over with this one, as it’s very much got that classic Drums sound. Crisp and crunchy guitars that ring a summer-ready alarm, all over the rather sad and nostalgic vocals of frontman Jonny Pierce.
“Abysmal Thoughts” was recorded across a year and three months of home recording between Los Angeles and Pierce’s cabin in upstate New York, using the same guitar, synthesizer, drum machine and reverb units that were used since the very beginning of the band. Pierce was in full control of this album, writing all of the songs by himself and playing all the instruments, resulting in some of the msot revelatory work that he’s ever released.
