On August 2, The Last Shadow Puppets returned to New York for a performance at Terminal 5 (where it was moved from its originally planned spot of United Palace Theater) one of the last few stops on the US portion of their tour in support of their album Everything You’ve Come To Expect, and a much larger performance than their intimate stop at Webster Hall back in April.
The group kicked things off in interesting fashion with a cover of Suicide’s “Ghost Rider,” likely in dedication to the passing of Suicide’s Alan Vega just a few weeks prior. From there, the ever confident duo of Alex Turner and Miles Kane (better known as Milex in some spheres of tumblr) ran through tracks from their new album as well as their 2008 debut, The Age of the Understatement.
Not that they were lacking any confidence at Webster Hall, but this performance was somehow even more elevated and bolder by the duo, providing both a thrashing version of “Bad Habits,” and a devastating version of “Sweet Dreams, TN.” For the encore, Turner found his way on the second deck VIP area, where he sang “The Dream Synopsis” with all the dramatics that it deserves, finding his model girlfriend Taylor Bagley and embracing her in the process. But it was their bold cover of David Bowie’s classic “Moonage Daydream,” that not only gave the show an epic conclusion, but closed this chapter of The Last Shadow Puppets for us New Yorkers.
