The name Alexandra Savior may seem unfamiliar to you, but there’s a chance you’ve heard some of her music without evening realizing it. The Los Angeles singer (originally from Portland, Oregon) first teamed up with Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner on “Risk” a song that caught some attention for it’s appearance on the soundtrack for HBO’s True Detective.
It turns out that she co-wrote her entire debut album with Turner, Strange Portrait (out sometime soon via Columbia Records and ended up giving a song from that session for Turner to use. You now know that little number as “Miracle Aligner,” one of the highlights off of The Last Shadow Puppets new album Everything You’ve Come to Expect. If the duo of Savior and Turner can keep this up, Strange Portrait is going to be quite a debut.
On May 19 she made her debut live performance in New York, a few days after Turner showed up for a few songs at her show in LA. He didn’t end up coming over for New York, but no matter, Savior was able to put her songwriting ability on full display. You could sense that she was still getting into the groove as a live performer of these songs, but that’s something that will undoubtedly improve over time. Fellow LA residents Papa acted as her live band, beefing up her band and offering a tight ship for their musical captain that night.
