Irish folk-rock group Little Green Cars remain one of the more underlooked bands of the current scene, with their great 2013 debut album Absolute Zero proving that they were a band to watch closely in the future. Well the future is now, and the group have returned in an equally stunning fashion with their sophomore effort Ephemera, also released via Glassnote Records.
Once again, this record has seemed to go slightly under the radar of many listeners and publications, but you wouldn’t have known it by the sold out crowd in attendance at their sold out Bowery Ballroom show on April 21. It was the group’s first New York show in a few years, but they didn’t miss a beat. The new material went hand and hand with old favorites like “Harper Lee,” “The John Wayne” and “My Love Took Me Down to the River to Silence Me.” It’s hard to believe the band have found ways to get even tighter as a group, with all five of their members help contribute to their vocals, creating some beautiful harmonies that you can’t help but become overpowered with emotionally.
They ended the show by coming into the crowd for an acoustic performance of Ephemera closer “The Factory.” Seeing the band sing the beautiful track while the crowd sang along while surrounding them was a special moment. The type of moment we seek when we go experience music live. That’s what it’s all about.
