Over the years Eric Prydz had adapted his live EPIC show into an awe-inspiring experience that any true electronic music fan should never miss out on. Prydz has remained a consistent and heavy hitting producer for decades and is at the top of the game in regards to a visually stunning and technologically advanced live show.

With each passing “update” a new version of EPIC is birthed. The latest incarnation of his live experience brought along a completely different setup. At MSG, 3.0 was long and all encompassing and felt like arms reaching out for a hug, while 4.0 lends itself to a box like structure. Initially, I was confused as to why Terminal 5 was chosen as the venue for this show but upon its start it was clear that the giant cube had a cozy home upon their stage.

For two hours Prydz flowed seamlessly through his variety of material. In the first half we heard some of his heavy hitting Pryda material and in the second half he dropped Cirez D and the ending of his new album, Opus. The best part of the night had to be the deep techno house Cirez D portion. He turned T5 into a sweaty warehouse party. It got dark and dirty and was everything I was waiting for.

Towards the end of the set Prydz pulled songs from Opus. Although this was a debut album, it was years in the making and a lot of the jams sound like classics now. Songs like “Liberate”, “Generate”, “Everyday” are definite crowd pleasers that make the finale of this show seem like a celebration of all his hard work coming together in the physical form of the record.

Aside from the visually captivating show that is EPIC, it is really fun watching Prydz himself. On stage, he is a maestro picking, plucking and glittering layers of synths and melodies with his hands. His movements are in sync with the visuals. At the end, Prydz lifts his left arm and creates the huge hologram Opus head which initiated an all out frenzy as everyone in T5 moved to the title, closing track. It was glorious.

It was difficult to realize that the show was ending. The two-hour set seemed to fly by in the blink of an eye and for sure could have gone on for another two hours with no complaints from anyone. With the closing of the NYC EPIC 4.0 chapter, one can only hope that 5.0 comes sooner rather then later.
