Jenny Lewis and the Watson Twins at Beacon Theatre (February 3, 2016)

In 2006 Jenny Lewis released Rabbit Fur Coat, along with her companions for that record, The Watson Twins. It was an important album for her as it marked her first solo endeavor away from Rilo Kiley, who would go on to release their final album together the very next year. Rabbit Fur Coat saw Lewis dive headfirst into lovely alt-country arrangements that signaled a start of a great solo career just as prolific as with her previous group. While all of us still miss Rilo Kiley dearly, having her solo work around makes it a little bit easier to swallow.

On February 3 Lewis and The Watson Twins kicked off a sold out two-night run at Beacon Theatre, celebrating the ten year anniversary of the record. Her and The Watson Twins dove into the album in order from start to finish, with opener M Ward joining her for some extra guitar work, just as he did on the record. It was a trip down memory lane to her these lush arrangements brought to life once again, only this time both her and the twins have had a decades worth of experience under their belt, making them much more seasoned performers which resulted in a pitch perfect performance.

After a brief intermission, Lewis returned delighting the attentive Beacon Theatre audience with some of her more recent solo highlights as well as a few Rilo Kiley favorites such as “Silver Lining” and “I Never.” If you were a fan of Jenny Lewis, Beacon Theatre was the place to be that night.
