A few weekends ago the CBGB Music Festival went down in Times Square, offering a free days worth of music from all kinds of great rock and roll bands. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to make it down in time for We Are Scientists (still kicking myself for missing them), but I did catch Surfer Blood.
Surfer Blood released their latest album Pythons last year, and played tracks such as “Demon Dance” and “Say Yes To Me” as well as older favorites like “Take It Easy” and Catholic Pagans.” Frontman John Paul Pitts had fun with the set, running into the photo pit, going under the stage (all white singing) and then entering the crowd to hang with the audience (which I believe included old band member Marcos Marchesani).
It’s always good to see these guys live, reminding me of the first time I saw them, in the early months of 2010. They’ve come quite a long way since then.
Find some more shots of their performance at the CBGB Festival posted below.
