Today Weezer announced via their twitter that they have signed on to indie label Epitaph Records, for the release of their new album, Hurley, due for release on 9/14. Is Rivers a fan of Lost? If so, that could explain the title. Knowing Rivers, naming a new Weezer album after a loveable character of Lost wouldn’t be too far fetched. It would actually make sense.
I have high hopes for this new album. I think that going to an indie will allow Weezer to do their own thing. Not having suits breathing down your neck for a #1 hit single is probably a good thing.
I know many of you have given up on them by now, but here’s to hoping they prove the world wrong! For those who need encouragement, check out this article Rolling Stone wrote. It talks about how the band is going towards a 60’s pop sound on Hurley.
