I’ve seen Magic Kids name all over the web over the past few months, but I never got to listen to them. Turns out they’re a part of the record label I’m interning for, so I finally gave them a listen. God damn, these kids are good. They are a band full of young guys and girls from Memphis, Tennessee. It’s safe to say that they’ve certainly received a tremendous amount of buzz. Guess what, they live up to every bit of it.
“Hey Boy”, has to be your introduction to Magic Kids. It’s as close as you can come to pop-rock perfection. I can’t help but think of the holiday’s when listening to the child-like chorus. It’s these sweet vocals that are the backbone to the song. I don’t know if it would be the same without them. It’s a big powerful song that is best described as happy. Simple, but it’s true. I’m beyond happy when listening to it. It makes me feel damn good. How can you not fall in love with this band after listening to this gem? Hard to believe this is one of the first songs they ever released.
The only other two songs released from the band right now are “Good To Be” & “Superball”. Both are equally satisfying, and fun. The band has an incredible ability to create joyous songs full of harmonies that fans of The Beach Boys should eat up. Their songs are charming and smart. What else can you ask for?
Their debut album will be released sometime in 2010 via True Panther Sounds. It’s easily one of my most anticipated of the year. I’m excited to see what these kids can do. Check out the three songs that the band has given us to work with so far:

Starting July they will be touring with Ariel Pink. They are coming to Irving Plaza on July 24th. Hope to see you there.
