SunYears, the project of Swedish musician Peter Morén – of Peter Bjorn and John, is gearing up for the release of their new album and has shared single “(Going To A) Cruel Country” ahead of its release.

The track digs deep to Peter’s 90’s influences, with a more raw garage rock sound that has classic pop songwriting elements from an entirely different era entirely. There are plenty of his natural infectious set of pop hooks to be found, just in a more refined way – with plenty of charm still intact.

Speaking on the track, Peter adds:

“I wanted this to be a raw, lo-fi indie rock explosion – straight from my ‘90s roots. To really let loose. Not hold back. It’s as melodic as always, with a Beach Boys-like quality, but also something almost slacker-grunge – like Sebadoh or Yo La Tengo when they really go for it. It’s something I rarely record this explicitly, and it was a joy to make. That little key change we did – Eurovision-style – is a smart trick that really lifts the song halfway through. There’s also a touch of white noise from a Moog, something you feel more than hear, but it’s still essential.
