St. Lucia, the project of husband-and-wife duo, Jean-Philip Grobler and Patti Beranek, returned last week with their fifth album, Fata Morgana: Dawn, via Nettwerk.
“Rolling Man” is one of its lead singles and album highlights, that feels like it steps back in time for soul driven tracks with a warmth and retro charm about it. It has a sunny spirit to it that only grows in length as it continues on, full of anthemic crunch and well placed horns.
Speaking on the track, adds:
“To me it feels like this song is about being free. It’s about not waiting for or asking permission to do things and about just sorta taking the bull by the horns and going forth. Jumping off the cliff with no fear. Things will change, bad things will happen but you have to just put one foot in front of the other and carry on. It’s a tribute to those people who choose to take a different and non-traditional path in life, despite all the risks involved. The song was written during the tour for our third album Hyperion in 2018, and recorded with our whole live band (and no metronome) at Mission Sound in Brooklyn in August of 2019.”
