Newcastle’s Pit Pony returned with their second album, Dead Stars, last month via Clue Records and EMI North.

Kicking off the album is opening track “At Dawn”, a commanding rocker with a garage rock oomph that delivers a brooding presence and tension that taps into a primal feeling. Its an urgent call to arms that packs a hell of a punch.

Speaking on the track, the band’s Jackie Purver adds:

At Dawn is a reference to personal experience, it’s a storytelling song about being young and caught up in things you think will last forever and then they’re fleeting. I actually wrote it to look back on something that I was resentful about for a while and to make peace with it with a more mature viewpoint. Everything shapes us as we go. The At Dawn name itself is a nod to my favourite film ‘Rebel Without A Cause’ in which Plato (Sal Mineo) asks Jim (James Dean) whether he thinks the world will end at nighttime and he responds ‘Nuh uh, at dawn’”.

Enjoy a listen to “At Dawn” below, along with fellow single “Vacancy” which also packs a hell of a 90s style punch. You can also stream the album in full and buy it at Bandcamp.
