If I’m being honest, I did not expect a new Youth Lagoon album this year – or anytime soon. Afterall, it had been eight years since Savage Hills Ballroom, what seemed to be the likely final album of the project as its brainchild Trevor Powers released two albums under his own name.
But over the weekend the fourth album, Heaven Is a Junkyard, has officially been released via Fat Possum Records. It’s well-orchestrated and surrounds itself in a reflective sonic tone, full of the gorgeous instrumentation found on previous records, in a newly formed and mature fashion.
You can best get a taste of the record with the music video for single “The Sling” a haunted and ethereal track that has a dark cinematic nature, bathed in a mysterious atmosphere and somber presence.
