Last year saw a great big void in all of our hearts for many reasons but for music lovers alike, not getting to experience concerts and live music was unthinkable that suddenly became a reality. Not getting to travel to Newport, Rhode Island to experience Newport Folk Festival, one of the best live music experiences in the United States, hurt something deep.
So to be able to return to the Fort this year for three days of special live performances was a treat. Like most of life, this year’s Folk Fest was a much different one from any other. Instead of their usual three-day weekend, the festival was split up into a pair of three-day sets of reduced capacity and a unique set of artists.
While there was much jarring about the significantly intimate crowd, one thing stayed the same: the music. Newport is one of the only fests that is truly just about the music and while they didn’t quite have the lineup that we expected to see in 2020 before the world changed, they still provided us with a collection of great artists that made it a unique set of three days that we won’t soon forget. It also helped that this was my first official live performance/shoot, making it that much more memorable.
