Singing is a special gift, one that doesn’t come easy to the average person. It takes a special talent, one that a lucky few are born with. But what happens to those who unfortunately have their gift thrown into doubt or taken away from them because of illness? Would it be possible to get them singing again?
As a part of World COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), Philips formed the Breathless Choir, which brought 18 special individuals together to learn how to sing together as one, which led them to a performance at the world famous Apollo Theater in Harlem, New York, where they sang the classic song “Every Breath You Take,” in front of their friends and loved ones. Famous choirmaster Gareth Malone, known for his ability to turn unlikely people into singers, helped prepare them for the event. Their journey to the stage was documented through a series of gripping films, as they faced their doubts head on, and took the task with pride, casting their fears and doubts aside.
Watching the amazing clip of their story gave me goosebumps. You can’t help but be amazed at the incredible journey the 18 talented people took. You don’t need to be a music fan for this amazing story to move you. You just have to be human.
