Community Season 6

Community, the little engine that could, will return for it’s sixth season on March 17 via Yahoo’s new online TV network, Yahoo Screen. Two new episodes will debut on Yahoo Screen on March 17, with a new episode per week each Tuesday.

The announcement was made at the Television Critics Association press tour, along with a new video that Yahoo released featuring the Community cast sharing the shows return date. The video features the shows brand of humor, with some not so subtle stabs at the terrible job NBC did with advertising the show. It features the show’s returning regular cast, Joel McHale, Alison Brie, Danny Pudi, Gillian Jacobs, Ken Jeong, Jim Rash, as well as new cast member Paget Brewster.

The the TCA panel, Dan Harmon revealed some details about new characters played by Brewster and Keith David, who are as Harmon puts in, a “problem solver,” and a “computer programmer who wasted a lot of time on VR technology in the 90’s.” This season will be the first without longtime regular cast member Yvette Nicole Brown. Harmon also mentioned that the departure of her character, Shirley, will be explained in the season’s premiere.

Unfortunately, on top of Chevy Chase and Donald Glover’s departure, new cast member Jonathan Banks and longtime sometime cast member John Oliver don’t look to be returning, as they have their own full-time commitments. Banks will be on Breaking Bad spinoff series Better Caul Saul, and Oliver of course has his own HBO show, Last Week Tonight With John Oliver. But there’s always the possibility of old cast members returning. Or as Dan Harmon put it: “”Surprises will be surprises.”

We’re only a few short months from the return of Community, which is truly amazing considering most thought season 5 would be it’s last.
