My first ever Firefly Festival was kicked off with a set by Australian Courtney Barnett. Her 2013 album The Double EP: A Sea of Split Peas somehow slipped past me last year, but after her performance at the fest, I’m fully caught up.
Based on the reception that the crowd gave her and her band (especially on night 1), she is well on her way up. There’s an easy going nature to Barnett’s music that she conveys delightfully live. It was no surprise that her biggest song “Avant Gardener” was a clear highlight, with all of its clever lines delivered to perfection.
From what I saw, it’s only a matter of time until Barnett’s career takes off in a big, big way.
