Last night L.A. rockers Allah-Las rocked out Rough Trade NYC, which has finally returned to business after sorting out some soundproofing issues. I caught the end of young NYC act Spires. They’re decent enough, but I couldn’t help but notice that they sounded like a bunch of bands thrown together. Decent enough, but I wasn’t blown away.
Allah-Las took over and immediately struck that delicious groove that they’re known for. They were one of my favorite acts of SXSW 2013, and last nights performance reminded me why. All the laid back 60s psych-tones were perfectly intact, cool and collected. Really they are just as enjoyable as they come. These guys bring the right rock vibes, plain and simple.
They played nearly all the tracks off their delightful debut album as well as a few new cuts off their new album, which they said they recently finished up. They’re still figuring out how to play some of the new songs live, but the material is definitely promising. Hearing them alongside cuts such as “Busman’s Holiday” and “Every Girl” was fitting. The new songs fit right alongside the old ones, moving at their own pace, but not staying too far.
Hopefully we will have news on the new record soon, maybe later this fall. Check out some photos of their performance last night below.
