The release of a movie poster tends to bode well for promotional campaigns – usually a sign that they’re starting up. Marvel has been on a roll this whole week with Guardians of the Galaxy content, from the trailer release on Jimmy Kimmel Live to short character spots (just released today) to the first poster.

This first Guardians poster (courtesy of Marvel) calls back to the SDCC banner (and the trailer, etc.) with the line-up of the team, but here, the team takes the opportunity to go Vogue with poses. Thankfully, unlike Black Widow’s character poster for Winter Soldier, Gamora (Zoe Saldana) isn’t overly and obviously Photoshopped. The poster also provides a bit of a better look at Rocket (Bradley Cooper), Groot (Vin Diesel), and what looks to be the Milano, Quill’s ship. And the tagline (“You’re welcome”) fits the tone of the comics rather well. The Guardians of the Galaxy blast into theaters on August 1.

'Godzilla' (Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures)

And as for the lumbering behemoth/mutated lizard, Godzilla now has its third poster courtesy of Yahoo, the first being the SDCC exclusive and the second being the official poster. Much like the second poster, the third aims to sell the movie on the scale of the King of Kaiju. The second was just its tail surrounded by helicopters, but this shows how Godzilla towers over the San Francisco skyline – a continuation of sorts of the hints at its scale in the trailer. So while the cast may take top billing, Godzilla easily towers over them and will do so when the film roars into theaters on May 16.
