Cloud Nothings were originally booked to play at Rough Trade, but due to the ongoing issues there (keeping the sound low enough from annoying the neighbors) they had to move the show to Baby’s All Right. This truly was quite all right as the venue was a good fit for the show.
Ed Schraders Music Beat opened the set up. The duo of Ed Schrader and Devlin Rice come from Baltimore, Maryland, and they create quite a stir. When I got there they were making hectic freakout noise, but then there were slower, more drawn out elements with Schraders vocals at time sounding eirrely similar to Jim Morrison. Rice’s bass was tuned similarly for what DFA1979 uses. Together they created a interesting set that definitely was different. It also was not shy on the comedy, which is always a good thing.
Cloud Nothings’Â Dylan Baldi told the crowd that their new album is due out in April, and that they would be playing it for us. They really meant it, as a majority of the shows set was all new songs. The songs are a further dive into the direction that they exploded with on last album Attack On Memory. They’re fast, heavy, and full of drained emotional outburst. If you were like me, and really enjoyed Attack On Memory, you’re going to love all the new material off the new record.
They also graced us with the presence of a few Attack On Memory tracks, such as “Seperation” and show closer “Stay Useless” which finished the show. The show breezed by really quick, maybe lasting 50 minutes or so. To the disappointment of some, there was no encore. But if anything, it’s just leaving us waiting in anticipation for the band to return with the new album and another tour, where we will be familiar with the tracks and be able to truly lose ourselves. I can’t wait.
