Nymphomaniac Poster

One of the more intriguing films due out next year is Lars von Trier’s two-part anthology film, Nyphomaniac. The film is a sex epic, as the title would have you believe. It will be very NC-17 and probably not a film that you will want to see in the vicinity of any members of your family.

Nymphomaniac details the sex-life of Joe (Charlotte Gainsbourg), a self-diagnosed nymphomaniac who is found beaten and left for dead in an alley by a older bachelor named Seligman (Stellan Skarsgård). He brings her into her home, and listens as she tells her story to him through an epic eight chapters of her life. The rest of the cast is rounded out by Shia LaBeouf, Uma Thurman, Jamie Bell, Williem Dafoe, Christian Slater, Sophie Kennedy Clark, Connie Nielsen, Udo Kier, Stacy Martin, Mia Goth, and Jean-Marc Barr.

The film will be split into two feature length films, with part one coming theatrically on March 21 (VOD on March 6), and part two coming theatrically on April 18, (VOD on April 3). It will be released in Denmark this year, in a few weeks, on Christmas Day. Due to the content of the film, there’s been a lot of controversy over what cut of the film will be shown, as the cut planned to be shown is believed to be four hours, while von trier’s directors cut is closer to five and a half. Damn.

No matte how you spin it, Nymphomaniac is going to be a viewing experience like no other. I’m very curious to see how it all turned out, and also somewhat afraid of what will unfold.

Check out the red-band trailer below, which is naturally, very NSFW. Seriously. Don’t watch this at work.
