I was originally supposed to catch Andrew Bird tonight at Rough Trade, but due to sound complaints, the venue has had to postpone shows there for a while. I was about to be very sad, as Bird is one of the few artists that I haven’t been able to catch live, due to continuous scheduling conflicts. He actually came to play at Binghamton when I was a student there, but that was when I was in NYC for CMJ. Go figure. Luckily, he was scheduled to perform an even more intimate show yesterday at Rockwood Music Hall as an exclusive performance for WFUV, and I finally got to see him.

He played alongside special guest Tift Merritt, and performed a furry of songs with just his violin, and Merritt’s acoustic guitar. It was a lovely set full of old songs, and new. The standout of the night was Bird’s performance of “Pulaski at Night”, the lead single of his recently released EP, I Want to See Pulaski at Night.

The duo of Bird and Merritt was a lovely one, Merritt rounding out the lovely singing and whistles that came from Bird. As simple of a set-up as they had, it was all that they needed. There was literally no room to move in the venue, as it was packed to the literal brim with everyone in dead silence taking in the magic that was before us on stage.

It was a brief show, but nonetheless perfect. I hope to catch a proper full live show from Bird sometime next year, as he is more than worth it.

Check out some more photos from the performance below.
