The last time I saw Black Lips was at a rowdy SXSW show in Austin that got so out of hand that security actually fought fans, and eventually the band. It was insane to say the least.
Things were toned down quite a bit at Black Lips’ show at Music Hall of Williamsburg last night. The Atlanta boys played a set that included nearly half a dozen new songs. The band said the new album is done, and it should be coming out sometime early next year, probably March (they said). The new songs sounded pretty good for the most part.
The rest of the show featured the usual Black Lips antics, feisty crowd and all. Although their set wasn’t as bonkers energy wise as it was in SXSW, they still put on a rock solid show that had beer cups slinging in the air, and bodies flying across the stage and crowd. They know how to get it done, and I will likely be sure to see them once they’re back in support of the new LP.
They’re playing Bowery Ballroom today (Tues 11/6) as well, if you’re interested in catching them. Fellow Atlanta, Georgia, natives, Subsonics opened before them.
Check out photos from their set below.
