After months of waiting, the full trailer for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug has hit the web, and might I say how glorious it looks? It’s easily one of my anticipated films of the upcoming winter season, if not this year. I thoroughly enjoyed An Unexpected Journey, which whetted my appetite for more yet divided audiences because of the bloat and effects.

Following the first teaser from back in June, this full trailer clearly ups the action and shows a touch more of Smaug, but you really can’t beat the reveal at the end of the teaser. However, hearing Cumberbatch’s gravely yet serpentine Smaug is simply chilling. Check it out below!

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is the second film in Peter Jackson’s second Tolkien trilogy, and it follows Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman), Gandalf the Grey (Ian McKellen), and Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) and his troupe of dwarves as they continue to make their way towards the Lonely Mountain to face down Smaug (Benedict Cumberbatch) to reclaim the dwarven kingdom of Erebor. Along the way, they encounter the elves of Mirkwood – including Thranduil (Lee Pace), their leader, the returning Legolas (Orlando Bloom), and Tauriel (Evangeline Lilly), a character created for the film, perhaps as a love interest for Legolas – and the citizens of Lake-town, like the mayor (Stephen Fry) and Bard the Bowman (Luke Evans). The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug hits US and UK theaters on December 13, 2013 and sees release is Australian and New Zealand theaters the day before.
