Jonathan Teplitzky’s new film The Railway Man tells the true story of a Eric Lomax, WW2 veteran who was held as a prisoner by the Japanese. Decades later he tracks down the officer who tortured him, seeking revenge.
Colin Firth plays Eric Lomax, Hiroyuki Sanada plays the Japanese soldier who tortured him, Nicole Kidman plays Lomax’s wife, and Stellan Skarsgård plays Lomax’s friend, Finlay. Jeremy Irvine and Sam Reid play the younger versions of Lomax and Finlay.
It looks like an interesting watch, even if it looks somewhat predictable. We have learned to trust Colin Firth, and will be worth seeing for his and the rest of the cast’s performances.
It got a good reception at the Toronto International Film Festival last weekend, but has yet to announce its release date here in the U.S.
