King Krule played a sold out show at Bowery Ballroom on Monday, which is pretty amazing considering Archie is only 19-years old. The rest of the band looks to be of the same age, if not younger. Mostly dressed in suits and looking a lot older and more serious than when I first saw him at CMJ two years ago (jesus, time has absolutely flown by!).
Archie seemed more confident on stage, and with his band and him connecting on a more kinetic level. Archie’s vocals still surprise me live, as they sound exactly as they do on record, just as raspy and deep. It was awesome to hear “Out Getting Ribs” again, as I still remember finding that song back when he was known as Zoo Kid and being absolutely floored. The song still has that same power live, as do the rest of his songs.
Scarily enough, this is just the beginning of King Krule’s career. Just think what he can do with a bit more age and time.
Ratking opened things up with a pretty unique set of rap tunes that was a mix of electronic and hip-hop. Very different, but it got a lot of the people in the front of the crowd going.
