Sam Rockwell stars in David M. Rosenthal’s neo-noir thriller A Single Shot, showing what happens when a hunter named John Moon (Sam Rockwell) accidentally shoots a girl while hunting a deer, and accidentally discovers a box of money near her dead body. He takes the cash and tries to cover up the killing. But of course, the money belonged to some bad people who want it back, and it results in a dangerous game of cat-and-mouse that turns the hunter into the hunted.
It reminds me a bit of No Country For Old Men, and the look and feel of the film based on the trailer definitely shows some of the same grittiness. Sam Rockwell gave one of my favorite performances of the year with The Way Way Back, and it looks like he may do the same with a totally different type of role here.
The film also stars William H. Macy, Kelly Reilly, Jason Isaacs, Jeffrey Wright, and Melissa Leo. It comes out on VOD on August 20, and in theaters on September 20. Watch the trailer below.
